The nature of this item is to authorize a Resolution accepting the bids received April 6, 2012, pursuant to
Invitation For Bid (IFB) No. 307276, from Draeger Safety, Inc. and Municipal Equipment Company, LLC.,
the lowest responsive and responsible bidders, on an item -by -item basis, for the purchase of Self -Contained
Breathing Apparatus Equipment, for the Department of Fire -Rescue, in a total award amount of $239,176.14
and $29,419.20, respectively; allocating funds from the following sources: PTAEO: P: 18-180022 T: 01.02.01
A:1731 E: equipment 0: 181000; PTAEO: P: 40-B70411 T: 05 A: 1762 E: Equipment 0: 181000; and
PTAEO: P: 18-180011 T: 01.01 A: 1564 E: equipment O: 181000.
Background Information:
The Department of Fire -Rescue is in need of procuring equipment for protection under hazardous environments
(fire and non -fire). The equipment needed includes oxygen bottles and fill adapters for the Self -Contained
Breathing Apparatus Equipment which is used in high heat and fire environments. Additionally, equipment is
needed for the regional rebreather project. Rebreathers enable the wearer to stay in a hazardous environment
for up to four (4) hours. The equipment needed include an oxygen booster pump to re -fill the rebreather units
and other items which are part of the service and maintenance. As such, on March 21, 2012 the Department of
Purchasing issued Invitation for Bid (IFB) No. 307276. As required .by the Procurement Code, the IFB was
advertised and issued on-line. On April 6, 2012, at the bid opening, three (3) bids were submitted and they have
been tabulated. The Department of Purchasing is recommending award to Draeger Safety, Inc. and Municipal
Equipment Company, LLC., the lowest responsive and responsible bidders, on an item -by -item basis. The total
award amount shall not exceed $239,176.14 and $29,419.20, respectively.
