Collected from waste stream WHY AUTOMATED SINGLE STREAM RECYCLING? Another benefit of curbside recycling is that the department receives slim per ton in revenue for these items, rather than paying an average of $65.05 per ton to dispose of this material at a County landfill. $65.05 per ton In Expense CURRENT RECYCLING OPERATIONS Curbside recycling program provides once a week recycle collection of commingled materials for single family residential units. Manual container service with 18-gallon cart, requires a driver and laborer for each route. Five (5) Recycling crews operate M,T, Th and Fri to service the City once a week. CURRENT RECYCLING OPERATIONS Commingled recyclables are delivered to a permitted Material Recovery Facility (MRF). Recyclables are separated and prepared for marketing to end -user manufactures. For all recyclables delivered, the City nets $ii.ii per ton in revenue. 10 CURRENT RECYCLING OPERATIONS For the past five (5) years, the City's recycling tonnage totaled 15,462.05 and is annualized as follows: Annual Tonnage Collected 3261.50 3328.97 3187.62 2772.92 2911.04 1522.50 FY 2007 FY 2008 FY 2009 FY 2010 FY 2011 Current FY CONVERSION TO AUTOMATED SINGLE STREAM RECYCLING Container size increased to 95 gallon container; allowing for the use of Automated Side Loader Truck. Recycle crew reduced to a Driver; thus lowering personnel costs. Service reduced from weekly pickup to bi-weekly pickup; thus lowering fuel costs.
