HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 12-00384 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), AUTHORIZING THE ALLOCATION OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT FUNDS TO RAFAEL HERNANDEZ HOUSING AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT CORPORATION IN THE AMOUNT OF $65,000, FROM THE DISTRICT 5 ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT RESERVE ACCOUNT, FOR ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATED WITH COMMERCIAL FACADE AND CODE COMPLIANCE PROJECTS IN DISTRICT 5; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE ALL NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY FOR SAID PURPOSE. WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 12-0060, adopted February 23, 2012, the Miami City Commission authorized the allocation of Program Year 2012-2013 Community Development Block Grant ("CDBG") funds, in the amount of $2,007,716 in the economic development category, for economic development activities; and WHEREAS, Rafael Hernandez Housing and Economic Development Corporation ("RHHED") provides assistance to businesses in low and moderate income communities for facade improvements and elimination of code violations; and WHEREAS, on February 23, 2012, the City Commission allocated additional funds in the amount of $13,000, for a total amount of $40,500, to the RHHED for facade program administration without a corresponding allocation for hard costs, thereby creating a need to provide an additional amount for hard costs; and WHEREAS, the City Administration recommends the transfer of CDBG funds, in the amount of $65,000, from the District 5 Economic Development Reserve Account, to RHHED for code compliance and commercial facade projects in District 5; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The allocation of CDBG funds to RHHED in the amount of $65,000, from the District 5 Economic Development Reserve Account, for economic development activities associated with code compliance and commercial facade projects in District 5, is authorized. Section 3. The City Manager is authorized{1} to execute all necessary documents, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney for said purpose. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: ' JULIE 0. BRU CITY ATTORNEY Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
