ENCLOSURES:
I conducted an investigation to determine whether Petersen Industries, Inc., located at 4000 SR 60 West,
Lake Wales, FL 33859-8201, continues to be the sole source manufacturer and parts provider for the
"Petersen Rear Steer RS3 Lightning Trash Crane" that are utilized by the Department of Solid Waste in
the trash collection of yard waste and other large bulk items for the City of Miami.
The Department of General Services Administration is seeking to establish a term contract with Petersen
Industries, Inc. for the procurement of parts utilized to repair the fleet of fifteen (15) "Petersen Rear Steer
RS3 Lightning Trash Crane." These trash cranes are instrumental in the collection of trash throughout the
City of Miami and help to increase the citizens' quality of life along with keeping the City clean.
The. City desires to continue to utilize this vendor for the procurement of parts of this specialized
equipment. The City Manager confirmed a prior sole source finding of the Chief Procurement Officer and
approved the acquisition of these sole source parts. At this time, the City is seeking to establish a term
contract for the continued provision of these unique parts.,
Accordingly, I am recommending that the requirements for formal competitive sealed bidding be waived,
and these findings be approved: Petersen Industries Inc., located at 4000 SR 60 West, Lake Wales, FL
33859-8201, is the sole source parts and/or service provider for the continued utilization of the Petersen
Rear Steer RS3 Lightning Trash Crane, for one year, with the option to extend for four additional one
year periods, for an annual amount not to exceed $200,000. Funding will be from the General Services
Administration's Budget, Account Number 05001.247000.546000.0000.00000.
