six and seven year -olds are now playing golf on a regular basis and some are
in college on golf scholarships.
In 1998 the Joe "Roach" DeLancey Minority Junior Golf Foundation was
established. Membership includes more than 100 youth from Homestead to
Palm Beach County. The foundation was his brainchild and was supervised
by him. The mission is to develop and irnprove capabilities in the game of
golf through intense instruction, to use the game of golf as a method to
build life -enhancing skills such as self-esteem, discipline, curtesy, and
self-reliance. The foundation's students have distinguished thernselves in
the Miami -Dade County Public School system by playing on the golf teams
of Richmond Heights Middle, Palmetto, Coral Reef Sr., Southridge,

prestigious tournaments such as The Doral Ry3er's Open -Grand Sam -Putt,
