SEVERANCE TO ERNEST BURKEEN FOR TO HIS SEPARATION FROM SERVICE IN THE
PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT WITH THE CITY OF MIAMI. •
Background Information:
On October 13, 2011, the City Commission approved and adopted Ordinance No. 13289, under which
severance pay or leave may be granted to unclassified service personnel appointed by the City
Manager to positions holding executive status. Severance pay shall not be given if the employee,
voluntary resigns, retires or the employee is terminated for cause. Ernest Burkeen was appointed to
the executive status and served as the director of the Parks and Recreation Department from May 31,
2004 to March 9, 2012. Ernest Burkeen is eligible to receive up to a maximum of 6 weeks of salary
as severance payment.
