Subject: Amendment to Lease Agreement between the City of Miami and Miami -Dade County
Law Department
Matter ID No.
Purpose of Item:
It is respectfully recommended that the Miami City Commission adopt a Resolution, with attachments,
authorizing the City Manager to execute an Amendment to the Lease Agreement between the City of
Miami (City) and Miami -Dade County (County) for the North District Police Station, located at 1000
N.W. 62nd Street, Miami, Florida 33127, to comply with Model Acknowledgement of Conditions for
Mitigation of Property in a Special Flood Hazard Area with FEMA Grant Funds, in substantially the
attached form, for said purpose.
Background Information:
On September 18, 1985, the City entered into an agreement with Miami -Dade County for leasing a
parcel of land to build the North District Police Station. The use of the demised premises allows the
City to make any improvements as long as it will be for the good and welfare of the neighborhood and
the City of Miami residents.
The City utilized a FEMA grant to provide upgraded hurricane protection on all windows and at the
entrances to the North District Police Station. As part of the grant conditions, FEMA requires that the
owner of the property sign a "Model Acknowledgement of Conditions for Mitigation of Property in a
Special Flood Hazard Area with FEMA Grant Funds." This acknowledgement stipulates that the
structure will not be demolished and that the property will be maintained under flood plain
management criteria established in the Code of Federal Regulations. Due to the property being
owned by the County, but leased to the City, the County desires to incorporate the FEMA requirements
in our lease through an amendment. The County administration will move forward with taking this
matter before their Commission for approval after our City Commission approves the amendment.
