HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-12-0122Vop City of Miami F .. , * Legislation i 0 R �O Resolution: R-12-0122 File Number: 12-00264 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com Final Action Date: 3/22/2012 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION STRONGLY URGING MIAMI-DADE COUNTY TO ADD A LIMITED -STOP EXPRESS BUS FROM THE CITY OF MIAMI TO MIAMI BEACH (SOUTH BEACH) TO ITS TRANSIT SERVICES; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE OFFICIALS AS STATED HEREIN. WHEREAS, problems with traffic congestion are exacerbated in the areas of Brickell, Downtown Miami, Omni, the Upper East Side and Miami Beach, by those traveling the MacArthur, Julia Tuttle, and Venetian Causeways between Miami Beach (South Beach) and the City of Miami; and WHEREAS, convenient public transportation between places that the citizens of Miami live, work, and recreate benefits the entire community by decreasing traffic and automobile emissions; and WHEREAS, Miami -Dade County Transit buses are equipped with bicycle racks, further promoting environmentally friendly intermodal public transportation for the citizens of the City of Miami who use bicycles as a green alternative to automobiles; and WHEREAS, the Miami City Commission supports convenient public transportation that enhances the quality of life for all its citizens; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Miami City Commission strongly urges Miami -Dade County to add a limited -stop express bus from the City of Miami to Miami Beach (South Beach) to its transit services. Section 3. The City Clerk is directed transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Board of County Commissioners of Miami -Dade County, Carlos A. Gimenez, Mayor of Miami -Dade County, and to Ysela Llort, the Director of Miami -Dade Transit. Section 4. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
