HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationC;J City of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 12-00096 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ACCEPTING GRANT FUNDS, IN THE AMOUNT OF $274,888, CONSISTING OF A GRANT AWARDED BY THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT AGENCY ("FEMA"), UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY, GRANTS PROGRAM DIRECTORATE, WITH A REQUIRED MATCHING FUND FROM THE CITY OF MIAMI ("CITY"), IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $68,722, FORATOTAL AMOUNT OF $343,6.10, TO PURCHASEPERSONNEL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT SUCH AS HAZMAT LEVEL A SUITS (CHEMICAL/BIOLOGICAL SUITS), AND EXHAUST EXTRACTION SYSTEMS FOR FIRE STATIONS NO. 2, 4, 7, 8, AND 9, TO SAFELY AND EFFECTIVELY MANAGE FIRE -RELATED EMERGENCIES, AS WELL AS WEATHER RELATED EMERGENCIES, FOR THE PERIOD BEGINNING DECEMBER 23, 2011 THROUGH DECEMBER 22, 2012; ALLOCATING THE CITY'S REQUIRED MATCHING FUNDS, FROM CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT B-70418 "FEMA/ASSISTANCE TO FIREFIGHTERS PROGRAM FISCAL YEAR 2011"; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS. IN ORDER TO IMPLEMENT THE ACCEPTANCE AND COMPLIANCE OF SAID GRANT. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has been awarded a grant, in the amount of $274,8880, for the period beginning December 23, 2011 through December 22, 2012, from. the Federal Emergency Management Agency ("FEMA"), United States Department of Homeland Security ("DHS"), Grants Program Directorate; and WHEREAS, matching funds from the City, in the amount of $68,722, are required as a condition of said grant, and are available from Capital Improvement Project B-70418 "FEMA/Assistance to Firefighters Program Fiscal Year 2011"; and WHEREAS, as stipulated in the grant award, the Department of Fire -Rescue will use said funds to purchase personnel protective equipment such as Hazmat Level A Suits (Chemical and Biological suits) and Exhaust Extraction Systems for Fire Stations No. 2, 4, 7, 8 and 9, in its effort to continue to excel in life safety; and WHEREAS, the Department of Fire -Rescue wishes to provide the protection from carcinogenic exhaust for its firefighters and the public that sometime use the facilities for civic events or seek shelter there during hurricanes; and _ - WHEREAS, it is appropriate for -the City Commission to authorize the City Manager to execute any necessary documents -in order to implement the acceptance and compliance of said grant; NOW;:THEREFORE, -BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: City ofMiami ; Page I of 2 File Id: 12-00096 (Version: 1) Printed On: 2/15/2012 File Number: 12-00096 Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. Grant funds, in the amount of $274,888, consisting of a grant awarded by FEMA , DHS, Grants Program Directorate, are accepted, with a required matching fund from the City, in an amount not to exceed $68,722, for a total amount of $343,610, to purchase personnel protective equipment such as Hazmat Level A Suits (chemical/biological suits), and Exhaust Extraction Systems for Fire Stations no. 2, 4, 7, 8, and 9, to safely and effectively manage fire -related emergencies, as well as weather related emergencies, for the period beginning December 23, 2011 through December 22, 2012. Section 3. The City's required matching funds, in an amount not to exceed $68,722, are allocated from Capital Improvement Project B-70418 "FEMA/Assistance to Firefighters Program Fiscal Year 2011". Section 4. The City Manager is authorized {1} to execute the necessary documents in order to implement the acceptance and compliance of said grant. Section 5. This grant will be appropriated by separate Resolution. Section 6. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor. {2} APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: JULIE O. BRU`--` CITY ATTORNEY Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
