HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-12-0054City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-12-0054 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 12-00161 Final Action Date: 2/9/2012 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION REQUESTING THE UNITED STATES CENSUS BUREAU EXPLAIN THEIR STATISTICS IN REGARD TO THE CITY OF MIAMI'S OVERCROWDING WHICH AFFECTS THE AMOUNT OF GRANT MONEY PROVIDED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF HOUSING AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE OFFICES STATED HEREIN. WHEREAS, the United States Census Bureau released its updated numbers concerning the City of Miami's overcrowding in 2010; and WHEREAS, the numbers concerning the City of Miami's overcrowding drastically dropped in relation to the previous United States Census Bureau numbers; and WHEREAS, the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development ("HUD") determines its allocations of grant money from the United States Census Bureau numbers which caused a decrease in the amount of funding the City of Miami received; and WHEREAS, the City of Miami is concerned about the decrease in funding from HUD while simultaneously the need for affordable housing rises; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Miami City Commission requests that the United States Census Bureau explain their statistics in regard to the City of Miami's overcrowding which affects the amount of grant money provided by HUD. Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the United States Census Bureau with a copy of the same to the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development. Section 4. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
