HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 11-01091 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A LEASE AGREEMENT, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM, BY AND BETWEEN THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA ("CITY") AND THE SCHOOL BOARD OF MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, FLORIDA, FOR THE CITY'S USE OF APPROXIMATELY 7,734 SQUARE FEET OF OFFICE SPACE AT THE LINDSEY HOPKINS TECHNICAL CENTER LOCATED AT 750 NORTHWEST 20TH STREET, MIAMI, FLORIDA, AT AN ANNUAL RENT OF ONE AND NO/100 DOLLARS ($1.00), PLUS BUILDING OPERATING EXPENSES, FOR THE OPERATION OF A WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT OFFICE PURSUANT TO A GRANT TO THE CITY FROM THE SOUTH FLORIDA WORKFORCE INVESTMENT BOARD. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") was issued a grant by the South Florida Workforce Investment Board to operate a workforce development office within the City for purposes of providing job placement and training services to City -residents ("Workforce Grant"); and WHEREAS, the City has identified the property located at 750 Northwest 20th Street, Miami, Florida, also known as the Lindsey Hopkins Technical Education Center, ("Technical Center") as an ideally located site for the placement a workforce development office; and WHEREAS, the Technical Center currently serves as an educational/training center, is located within close proximity to public transportation (both Metrorail and Metrobus), and offers ample parking on site for patrons of the facility; and WHEREAS, the School Board of Miami -Dade County, Florida ("School Board") currently operates the Technical Center and has agreed, subject to the terms and conditions contained in the lease agreement, to .allow the use of a portion of the Technical Center as a workforce development office; and WHEREAS, the lease will be for an initial term expiring on June 30, 2013, with two (2) additional options to extend the term for one (1) year each; and - WHEREAS, the City will be required to pay an annual rent of One and No/100 Dollars ($1.00), plus building operating costs for the operation of the office on those certain days during the lease term when the Technical Center would otherwise be closed, at an estimated daily rate of One Thousand Three Hundred Sixty Eight and 40/100 Dollars ($1,368.40); and WHEREAS; having' identified the Technical Center as a suitable location,pursuant to the guidelines of - the Workforce Grant, the City 'now wishes to enter into a lease agreement with the Sahoot Board.foi=the u`se of a :portion of.the Technical Center for purposes of operating a workforce development office; City of Miami Page 1 of 2 File Id: 11-01091 (Version: 1) Printed On: I/13/2012 File Number. 11-01091 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals andfindings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is authorized{1} to execute a Lease Agreement, in substantially the attached form, by and between the City and the School Board, for the use of certain office spaces at the Technical Center, as a workforce development office in connection with a certain grant issued by the South Florida Workforce Investment Board. Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor.{2} APPROVED AS TO FORM AND CORRECTNESS: JULIE O. BRU CITY ATTORNEY Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
