AN ORDINANCE OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION AMENDING CHAPTER III,
ARTICLE 3, OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA, AS AMENDED,
ENTITLED "ALARM SYSTEMS/FIRE ALARMS", MORE PARTICULARLY BY
CREATING SECTION 3-61, ENTITLED "REGISTRATION AND RENEWALS",
SETTING FORTH THE FEES AND REGISTRATION FOR FIRE ALARM
RENEWALS; CONTAINING A SEVERABILITY CLAUSE AND PROVIDING FOR AN
IMMEDIATE EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, fires take the lives of many each year; and
WHEREAS, fire prevention is an important part of the City of Miami's goals; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the health, safety and welfare of the community;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Ordinance are adopted
by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. Chapter III/Article 3 of the Code of the City of Miami, Florida, as amended, is further
amended in the following particulars: {1}
"CHAPTER 3
ALARM SYSTEMS
ARTICLE III. FIRE ALARMS

Sec. 3-61. Registration and Renewals.
(a) It shall be unlawful for any person to operate an alarm system without a valid registered alarm
system. A registered alarm system is a fire alarm system, properly permitted by and registered with
the City of Miami.
(b) Applications. Applications for Registered Alarm Systems shall be made on forms provided by the

Fire Department. The initial application shall be accompanied by a fee of $28.50 ($25.00 + $3.50
Service Fee). The application shall state the name, address and telephone number of the service
address where the alarm is installed, and if different from the Service Address, the Name; Contact
Person; Billing Address; Telephone Number of the principal party responsible for payment of fees. If
the applicant's alarm is installed and serviced by an alarm company, then the alarm company must
provide the city with its company name, address and telephone number and obtain the alarm
Registration for the applicant prior to the installation or activation of the alarm system.
(c) Emergency notification. Each application shall list an emergency contact number of the user or his
representative to permit prompt notification of alarm calls and facilities assisting the Fire Department in
the inspection of the property. Changes in emergency telephone numbers shall be kept current, and
failure to provide updated information may constitute grounds for revocation of.the permit.
(d) Reporting service information. Each holder of a Registered Alarm System shall immediately notify
the Fire Department in writing of any and all changes in the information on file with the city regarding
such permit. Failure to do so shall constitute grounds for revocation of the permit.
(e) Renewal and Duration. All registered alarms will be valid for a period of one year from the date of
issuance. Registration renewal will be issued after completion of a renewal form and the payment of
$28.50 ($25.00 + $3.50) renewal fee.

Section 3. If any section, part of section, paragraph, clause, phrase or word of this Ordinance
is declared invalid, the remaining provisions of this Ordinance shall not be affected.
Section 4. This Ordinance shall become effective immediately upon final reading and adoption
thereof. {2}

effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
