Background Information: The Parks and Recreation Department currently offers the After School Snacks Program at 19 parks, with a partner organiz tion providing snacks at a 20th location. The Department is currently completing the prerequisite documentation to add 6 parks to the program. . The Parks and Recreation Department currently partners with three (3) organizations in providing the Heart of Our Parks - Out of School Program utilizing a Children's Trust Grant at five (5) parks (Duarte, Shenandoah, West End, African Square, and Jose Marti Parks). Director Chief /` - - C-- City Manager Dann 1 ni 1 ---STATUS UPDATE ---- Henderson Park Snack Program Update The following items are required from the Florida Department of Health Child Care Food Program to add a site to the Afterschool Snack Program: • Change Form • ASite Information Form • Child Care Center License or Exemption Letter from the local licensing official (DCF) • News Release • Pre -Approval visit for Prospective Site • Food Service Permit or proof of Occupancy Permit and other required inspection reports. • Enrichment Activity Form All items with the exception of the Exemption Letter from the Department of Children and Families have been submitted to the Department of Health. The request for an Exemption letter has been submitted to the local Department of Children and Families. The anticipated date of issuance is fifteen to thirty business days. Once the exemption letter is submitted to the Department of Health it will take approximately five to ten business days to receive approval to include Henderson Park in the Department of Health Out of School Time snack program. Park sites are effective the first of the following month preceding the approval. Once the approval is received it takes approximately two to three business days to add the site to the caterer's delivery schedule. ----STATUS UPDATE---- JOSE MARTI RECREATION BUILDING 1. Occupancy Load Certificate — has been issued Background: Facility floor plans needed by City fire plans examiner for occupancy determination. Plans stored at private storage facility currently in dispute with City of Miami and not accessible. Park staff researched other avenues and located floor plans. Plans were submitted to City fire plans examiner for occupancy load determination and later carried to City Fire Marshall for issuance of Certificate of Occupancy. 2. Certificate of Use — Pending City Fire Inspector requires resolution of the following items: a. Fire Sprinkler & Backflow Prevention Inspection Fire Sprinkler System — Inspection Complete Replacement of three defective tamper switches is required. Inspection of backflow preventer is required. Proposals from a private company for repairs and backflow inspection have been received. Work is pending requisition number and issuance of Purchase Order. 3. Fire Alarm - Pending Fire alarm -inspection -required: -Previous -inspections failed -due -to -trouble sign l in fire panel. Re -inspection by private fire alarm company required following replacement of tamper switches. Once the above inspections (Private and City) are complete, the fire inspector will be called out to inspect and sign -off on the Certificate of Use. The Certificate of Use will be routed to the Office of Zoning for final processing and then submitted to City Finance Office for issuance. JOSE MARTI GYMNASIUM 1. Elevator Certification — has been issued Background: City elevator inspector discovered a problem with elevator phone line and required elevator inspection. Telephone line required intervention by City IT department and private elevator company. Private elevator company programmed telephone line - accordingly. Private elevator company performed the required testing. Fire extinguisher replaced with inspected extinguisher. b. Fire Sprinkler & Backflow Prevention Inspection - Pending Status: Estimates were obtained for inspection by private companies on contract with City. Requisition No. 61349 is being processed. c. Fire Alarm Monitor Inspection - Pending Status: Fire alarm inspection required by City Inspector. Previous inspections failed due to trouble signal in fire panel. Once the above inspections (Private and City) are complete, the fire inspector will be called out to inspect and sign -off on the Certificate of Use. The Certificate of Use will be routed to the Office of Zoning for final processing and then submitted to City Finance Office for issuance. Arts For Learning A4L provides quality arts -based programs that connect the arts to other core -curriculum subjects to support academic achievement and chile, 4evelopment. All A4L programs teach life and communication skills, support literacy and problem solving skills, foster self-discovery, and build self esteem. Amigos For Kids (dba Amigos Together for Kids) In the afterschool program at Jose Marti Park, Amigos For Kids provides scholastic assistance, (such as reading comprehension, writing and vocabulary skills) as well as numerous sports and family - oriented, child/parent workshops. They also provide afterschool snacks to the participants.
