From: Nelson, Ron [mailto:rnelson@miamigov.com] Sent: Wednesday, June 30, 2010 4:19 PM To: Marc Sarnoff; 'Petersobe@aol.com' Subject: RE: Huntington's Disease Triathlon and Fee Waiver The Huntington's Disease Triathlon has contacted Ernest Burkeen and Madeline Valdez about waiving the set up fees for their event. The event is Sunday August 1st with delivery of the City of Miami's bleachers and a show stage on Friday July 30th (at the request of the City). Because equipment is being delivered 2 days prior to the event the charity is being charged a "set up fee" of $2,000 which is equivalent to 2 days rent at $1,000 per day. They are willing to pay $1,000 for the 1 day of use but they would like relief from having to pay an additional $2,000 because the equipment will be delivered on Friday. They simply cannot afford to pay $3,000 in rental fees. As per the new City policy the only way a fee can be waived is by bringing it to Commission. Would you be willing to place this on the July 22nd agenda ors n 'as pocket item on the 8th or 22nd? I am contacting you to request your support of this event by waiving our set up fee. I have completed the permit application and paid $1,000.00 for the use of the facility on August 1st. In addition to $1,000.00 there is a charge of $1,000.00 per day for our set up. We are renting bleachers and a show stage from the City and would like to have them delivered on Friday, July 30 along with supplies needed for the event. Some set-up may be done on Friday but the majority will be done on Saturday, July 31st. It would be required that we pay an additional $2,000.00 for the use of the facility for our deliveries and set up. This event is our only fundraiser for the year, it is produced by volunteers and all the proceeds from this event are used to fund research in finding a cure or treatment for Huntington's Disease. I realize that the City of Miami like so many of us are financially struggling and I did not want to request the fee waiver for race day but if you would support this event by waiving the set up day it would be greatly appreciated. /o- ooge'3 - S%6inm ►tta - E-ai L Cor,m Ssoner rnoff charges imposed for lining the fields, additional cost of personnel, or the percentage of gross receipts where applicable. I am not aware of any other types of "fee waivers" other than those handled through the issuance of park permits. The use of city properties falls under use agreements fees and are governed predominately under Chapter 18 — Article V of the City Code. I have attempted to respond in a short and concise fashion therefore if I have misunderstood the inquiry or not properly addressed your concerns, pls feel free to contact me. In addition, I have copied the City Attorney to advise if I have misinterpreted the City Code/Charter on this matter. Many thanks.
