INDEPENDENT COUNSEL MAYS: --just
automatically.
CHAIRPERSON SHAPIRO: That's correct.
PANEL MEMBER COBITZ: He can be the
chief of police.
CHAIRPERSON SHAPIRO: It's 10 years'
experience in civilian oversight.
VICE CHAIRMAN DE LA GUARDIA: Madam
Chair.
CHAIRPERSON SHAPIRO: Yes.
VICE CHAIRMAN DE LA GUARDIA: I'll
ask if you would withdraw your motion to
not take that vote. And if you do so,
then I'll make a motion.
PANEL MEMBER WEINTRAUB: I withdraw.
VICE CHAIRMAN DE LA GUARDIA: Do you
agree?
PANEL MEMBER MOORE: Yes.
VICE CHAIRMAN DE LA GUARDIA: Madam
Chair, I would make the motion that Carol
Abia be named Interim Director to
facilitate our opening up for a national
search for her retention.
PANEL MEMBER HART: Second.
PANEL MEMBER ST. AMAND: Second.

CHAIRPERSON SHAPIRO: Has anyone
asked Ms. Abia if she's willing to serve?
PANEL MEMBER COBITZ: Good question.
MS. ABIA: I would be willing to
serve in the position, yes.
CHAIRPERSON SHAPIRO: Thank you.
PANEL MEMBER ST. AMAND: All right.
CHAIRPERSON SHAPIRO: Is there a
second?
PANEL MEMBER HART: Second.
PANEL MEMBER COBITZ: Second.
CHAIRPERSON SHAPIRO: The motion's
been seconded.
INDEPENDENT COUNSEL MAYS: It may
sound facetious, but I'm being serious.
In the event that vote doesn't carry, or
for whatever reason she elects not to
accept it, that means that ultimately the
administrative responsibilities would
likewise fall upon Independent Counsel.
CHAIRPERSON SHAPIRO: That's correct.
INDEPENDENT COUNSEL MAYS: Because
you're required to have Independent
Counsel. So you all be mindful of that.
PANEL MEMBER COBITZ: We'll get you

CHAIRPERSON SHAPIRO: Someone wants
to call the question?
PANEL MEMBER MOORE: I have a
question before calling the question.
think in fairness to Carol, we should
establish what her salary is.
CHAIRPERSON SHAPIRO: We did that.
It's $135,000. That's what was in the
budget.
PANEL MEMBER MOORE: I just want to
be sure that --
VICE CHAIRMAN DE LA GUARDIA: So do
you want the extra money?
