Att: Ms. Regina L. Nagger GIS Developer City of Miami, Public Works Department Miami, FI 33130 Dear Ms. Hagger: This E-Mail will serve to protest for the proposed removal of eight trees on SW 3 St. between SW 24 and 25 Avenues, Miami, Florida. I base my protest on the following reasons: 1. The zoning of this area is residential/duplex. 2. According to Metro Regional Code the parking and storing of a commercial vehicle(s) and/or bus is illegal in a residential neighborhood. 3. The removal of these trees will cause the undervalue of the properties accross the street. 4. The removal of these trees is against the current policy of: think green -act green which is thoroughly practiced nowadays. 5. I think that these trees are older than fifty years and look very healthy. If trees of this age were planted today their cost will be high because of their value. Now I read in one of the documents I received that this kind of tree is prohibited. Was it prohibited when it was planted so long ago? If not, why it is now?. 6. If this proposal is approved and buses park in this street (causing the natural pollution) where the students will park the way they are doing it now?. I live in this area since 1978 with my family and always have tried to maintain my lawn and trees in the best possible way even in winter when the rain is very scarce, using my sprinkler system. I love trees and do not like to see them when they are cut to pieces. I am sure that your Department will give a careful consideration to this matter and appreciate your information when your decision be taken. Dear Ms. Nagger: It has come to our attention that there are 8 trees on SW 3rd ST between 24th Ave and 25th Ave that will be removed in order to accommodate bus parking space for Miami Senior High School. This is very disconcerting to us because of the impact that this action will entail. As it is, the traffic is horrible, stop signs are ignored, and speeding takes place constantly before and after school. So, in our opinion, having buses will impact our neighborhood even worse. Also, that area is used for student parking; when buses are present, students will have to park in the surrounding areas, thus impacting us even further. To conclude, these "prohibited" trees were planted at least 31 years ago (which is how long we have lived in our home) and we're puzzled as to why it's now the time to remove them. Nowadays so much focus is spent in making our environment as green and pleasant to the eye as possible. These trees are big and luscious and help our air against pollution. With the parking of buses, we will certainly have more pollution, noise, traffic, and we could go on and on. We would like for you to re -consider and definitely NOT remove the trees and thus keep our neighborhood as green and as safe as possible. Thank you for your consideration. Hagger, As I read in the Miamidade.gov website bishopwood tree species is said to be principally distributed by birds into natural areas and its seed germination is high. It also states that it is probably aggressive in its habitat towards other trees and plants around it by not permitting its adequate development. Let me mention that there is approximately 30 other trees of this same species around the school area not only the 8 mentioned in your email. Other trees and plants have not been affected by the bishopwood tree through my knowledge for the last 20 years. By being called an exotic pest plant you would expect it to be propagated in close neighborhoods, possibly bothering our communities citizens. On that note we only see the trees that have been planted on purpose, demonstrating that this seed distribution by birds has not worked in the neighboring areas of Miami Senior High and further. In which we can conclude that this tree species has not only provided a great shade and surrounded our Miami Senior high for decades, but to the point where these trees have become a part of where this school stands in which I can proudly say that 5 of my kids have attended. Therefore here is my protest against the removal of these trees.
