A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION URGING MIAMI-DADE
COUNTY TO IMMEDIATELY PLACE LED PEDESTRIAN COUNTDOWN
MODULES/SIGNALS AT ALL SCHOOL CROSSINGS AND PEDESTRIAN PATHS
NEAR SCHOOLS, WITHIN THE CITY OF MIAMI; FURTHER DIRECTING THE CITY
CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN
DESIGNATED OFFICES.
WHEREAS, the Miami -Dade County Public Works Department, Traffic and Signals Division,
through the Miami -Dade County ("County") Charter has the sole responsibility for all traffic
engineering/traffic control devices ("Signalizations"); and
WHEREAS, the Miami City Commission would like to increase safety around schools located
within the City of Miami ("City") by providing information to pedestrians and motorists about how much
time is left to cross the street at signalized intersections; and
WHEREAS, the Miami City Commission strongly urges the County to install the County's
functionally specified LED Pedestrian Countdown Module;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The Miami City Commission urges the County to immediately place LED Pedestrian
Countdown Modules/Signals at all school crossings and pedestrian paths near schools within the
City.
Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the appropriate
County departments.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{1}
Footnotes:
{1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
