SUPPLEMENT TO AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY FORM
ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER. 54 OF THE CITY CODE
BASE BUILDING LINES - NW/NE 79 STREET
The FDOT is currently finalizing the first phase of a two-phase Project Development and
Environment (PD&E) Study to evaluate concept alternatives and preliminarily design
proosed changes to NW/NE 79 Street and NW/NE 81/82 Street from approximately NW
13thCourt on the west to Miami Beach on the east. The objective of the phased study is
to promote livability enhancements along NE 82 Street within the Shorecrest community
in the City of Miami while maintaining acceptable mobility standards along NW/NE 79
Street as the corridor currently functions as a one-way pair facility and gateway between
the two municipalities. Information garnered from the initial PD&E study has
determined that the livability needs along NE 82 Street cannot be adequately addressed
without significant capacity improvements to 79 Street by way of roadway widening
and/or transit improvements. The initial PD&E study, however, was constrained from
the standpoint of right-of-way acquisition.
To accommodate the traffic capacity improvements along NW/NE 79th Street that will
ultimately enhance livability along the NE 82 Street corridor, it is respectfully
recommended that the zoned base building line width of NW/NE 79 Street between
Biscayne Bay and the west city limits be increased from 80 feet to 110 feet.
