The Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant Program (JAG) allows states, tribes, and local governments
activities to prevent and control crime based on their own local needs and conditions. Grant funds can be used for
technical assistance, training, personnel, equipment, supplies, contractual support, and information systems for criminal
more of the following purpose areas. 1) law enforcement programs; 2) prosecution and court programs; 3) prevention
corrections and community corrections programs; 5) drug treatment programs; and 6) planning, evaluation, and technology
programs.
The City of Miami Police Department will use its FY2006 JAG funds for the fallowing projects.

The surveillance equipment will be utilized in intelligence gathering; counterterrorism; post-terroist investigations; and in the location of
criminals, abducted victims, stolen property, and missing persons wherein an active mobile phone is involved.
21Technology and Equipment Acquisition Project. The Department will update and upgrade the computer system for support staff and personnel.
3} GPS Mopping Display for Helicopter Project. This System will assist air personnel in providing support to patrol and detectives by coordinating
operations and pinpointing exact addresses and landmarks.
