Subject: Accepting donation of in -kind services from the Turkel Foundation for the restoration o.the
Dorsey Memorial Library.
Purpose of Item:
A Resolution, of the Miami City Commission, with attachment(s), accepting the donation of in -kind services
valued at approximately $250,000 from the Turkel Resource Foundation ("Foundation"), consisting of
improvements, attached hereto as Exhibit A, to City -owned property located at 100 Northwest 17 Street,
Miami, Florida, commonly known as the "Dorsey Memorial Library". Authorizing the City Manager to
execute a required indemnification agreement, in substantially the attached form, subject to the Foundation
providing insurance deemed appropriate by the City's Department of Risk Management.
Background Information:
The City of Miami ("City") is the owner of real property located at 100 Northwest 17 Street, Miami, Florida,
commonly known as the Dorsey Memorial Library ("Library"). On September 25, 2003, the City Commission
adopted Resolution 03-1027, accepting a donation of in -kind services from the Turkel Resource Foundation,
consisting of $50,000 worth of improvements to the Library. The Turkel Resource Foundation ("Foundation")
is poised to continue with the restoration of the Library and has applied for, and received $250,000 in General
Obligation Bonds issued by Miami -Dade County, for the restoration of the Library. Said improvements consist
of the following: repairs and/or improvements to sidewalks, concrete work, carpentry, lumber, masonry, doors
and frames, insulation, hardware, windows, shutters, lath and plaster, drywall, wood floors, ceramic tiles,
painting, plumbing, I-IVAC, electric including project administration and design ("Improvements"). The
Foundation wishes to contract for the appropriate professional services and oversee the work of the
Improvements, at no cost to the City. The Foundation wishes to donate the Improvements to the City. The
City Commission finds it in the best interest of the City to accept donation of such Improvements.
