HomeMy WebLinkAboutDocument Submitted into the RecordFOR 6:00 PM MEETING, Monday, December 12, 2005 To: Miami Zoning Board Fm: Lin Lougheed 55 and 81 NW 30th St. Miami, FL 33127 Sub: Zoning Change Petition for 26 NW 30th St. I support Miami Diver, the owner of 26 NW 30th St., in its bid to convert 26 NW 30th St. to a private parking lot for the use of its staff and students. Miami Diver has been a part of the Wynwood landscape for 25 years. The neighborhood needs such consistency as it enters a period of change caused by the commercial development of Midtown Miami. Miami Diver has been a good neighbor. It has cooperated with the Wynwood Arts District and allowed young artists to exhibit it its space; it has opened its doors to local students to visit its school and observe its training facilities. It is important for our neighborhood's youth to see career options such as this. Other institutions in the area should follow Miami Diver's example. Parking is necessary for Miami Diver's staff and student body. Miami Diver's plan to set back the street wall of the parking lot and landscape the public face is in keeping with the street's designation as the Wynwood-Fairchild Garden, a joint program between Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden and Wynwood NET. The program involves fruit -tree give- aways and signage highlighting plants in neighbors' gardens. Miami Diver has signed on as a sponsor of this program. I support Miami Diver's application to use its R-3 lot as a parking area. I encourage the zoning board to provide them with a waiver to do this. Miami Diver's is a unique business and has been a wonderful neighbor and asset to the community. The low impact proposed use will cause little to no noise. A wall will completely surround the proposed parking lot and is a much better use than the brothel and crack house which previously occupied the site. Lastly, the parking lot will alleviate any street parking which currently exists. I wholeheartedly support the rezoning of the property and look forward to rebuilding this community with neighbors such as Miami Diver's Inc. Many thanks for your attention to this matter.
