Requester: File Type: Discussion Item Status: Filed Reference: Controlling Body: Office of the City Clerk Introduced: 2/23/2006 Cost: Final Action: 2/23/2006 Title: Mayor Diaz requested Chairman Angel Gonzalez and Commissioner Joe Sanchez to chair the task force on issues pertaining to the federal government's Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Funds program; further requesting that said task force address the following actions: (1) quantify the fiscal and social impact of the FY'07 funding cuts already adopted by the federal government on City of Miami's CDBG program, as well as FY'08 cuts proposed in the President's current budget; (2) continue to inform and raise awareness among fellow Commissioners, City Administration, and citizens of Miami with respect to said issues; (3) build a broad coalition to advocate for increased CDBG funding with local officials, the business community, and the City's service organizations; (4) develop a strategy in conjunction with the City Administration to ensure that the City maintains a consistent level of funding for City programs in the upcoming FY'07 budget year; and (5) develop alternative contingency strategies for FY'08 in the event the current proposed cuts to the CDBG program are approved by Congress.
