Variance to Noise
Ordinance
FILE :
It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission grant NBC Universal Studios,
in association with MV Films Productions, LLC, their request for a waiver of the City of
Miami noise ordinance. The purpose of this waiver is to facilitate the filming of the
feature film, "Miami Vice," which will be shooting in our area from June 20th through
September 30`h, 2005.
BACKGROUND
"Miami Vice," based on the 1980's critically acclaimed NBC TV show, will star Collin
Farrell, as Sonny Crockett, and Academy award winner Jamie Foxx, as Ricardo Tubbs.
The Director, Michael Mann, whose credits include "Collateral," "Ali," "Last of the
Mohicans," and "The Insider," was also the Executive Producer of the original Miami
Vice series.
A blanket waiver is customary for the filming of large productions in the City of Miami
since locations and shooting dates wary widely and are scheduled in such a manner that it
would be impractical and nearly impossible to come before the Commission for each and
every waiver request. Upon approval of the City Commission, the production company
will proceed with the usual permitting process, as specific locations are needed, with the
Mayor's Office of Film, Arts & Entertainment.
The Mayor's Office of Film, Arts & Entertainment will ensure that all affected residents,
city agencies, commercial businesses, and/or civic organizations are fully aware of the
scheduled filming in their area and that every step is taken to ensure that filming activity
will cause minimal disruption to the community.
