HomeMy WebLinkAboutcover memocft- otilo`� CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA INTER -OFFICE MEMORANDUM TO : FROM : H orable bers Arriola Manager/Chief Administrator yin's the City Co DATE : SUBJECT: REFERENCES: ENCLOSURES: September 20, 2004 Request for Contract Extension with Terremark at Dinner Key, Inc. for Concessions at Coconut Grove Expo Center FILE : RECOMMENDATION It is respectfully recommended that the City Commission adopt the attached Resolution authorizing the City Manager to execute Amendment No. 3, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, and approving the extension in the Terremark of Dinner Key, Inc. ("Terramark") contract, on a month -to -month basis, not to be extended beyond September 30, 2005, for Terramark to provide concession services to the Coconut Grove Expo Center. This extension will provide essential services that will continue to bring in revenue for the City of Miami for this additional contract period. BACKGROUND On September 25, 1979, the City of Miami entered into an Agreement with Terremark of Dinner Key, Inc for the operation of a restaurant and concession stands at the Coconut Grove Convention Center. The said Agreement No. 1 was revised and amended pursuant to Resolution No. 86-772, adopted on November 26, 1986 and again amended pursuant to Resolution 89-812, adopted on September 14, 1989, amending provisions of the Agreement and the date of termination from September 30, 1989 to September 30, 2004. During this time, the need for concession services for scheduled events is essential for successful operations and the desired level of customer service. The Department of Conferences, Conventions and Public Facilities is currently evaluating the future use of the Coconut Grove Expo Center. At this time, Terremark of Dinner Key, Inc. is currently the Concessionaire contracted to operate at the Expo Center and meets the requirements of the needed services. The Agreement between Terremark and the City of Miami will expire on September 30, 2004. The Department of Conferences, Conventions and Public Facilities recommends the extension of the current contract, under the terms and conditions set forth in the Agreement along with the adoption of the conditions of Amendment 3, on a month -to -month basis as needed, not to exceed a one year period, from October 1, 2004 to September 30, 2005. The extension of this contract for this additional period will continue to bring in revenue to the City of Miami, promote customer service and enhance the quality of future scheduled events.
