BACKGROUND; In accordance with Section 54-8 of the City Code representatives for the Four Seasons Hotel and Towers have requested authorization to install signage within the public right of way of S.E. 14 Terrace and S.E. 14 Lane directing customers to their private parking garage entrance and pone cochere valet area. The eigne stand approximately 6 feet high and are 4 square feet in alma. The Public Works Department has reviewed this request and the regulations contained in the "Manual on "Uniform Traffic Control Devices". Signage is placed in the public right of way to improve public safety by regulating the motoring public, such as stop signs, and to want motorists of roadway hazards, such as pedestrian crossings. Guide signs and directional signs are placed to assist drivers through and around the City's neighborhoods. All of these signs benefit the general public by promoting safety and uniform traffic flow. The parking and valet area directional sign contained in this request are for the exclusive benefit and convenience of the customers of the Four Seasons Hotel and Tower and are not intended to improve public safety or enhance public awareness of roadway hazards or neighborhood districts. Similar requests by other commercial property owners would lead to a proliferation of signage in the public right of way that would obscure the required regulatory traffic signage necessary for public safety. The requested signage is intended to be permanent, private directional signs and are not for teinporary display. For these reasons, the Public Works Department respectfully recommends denial of thi Orton'I f t signage request. JA ACS/SNG/FM/LJH c: Stephanie N.
