Consideration of amending Ordinance No. 11000, as
amended, the Zoning Ordinance of the City of Miami,
by amending Article 10, entitled "Sign regulations," to
modify and clarify provisions related to signage
requirements and limitations, to add jurnbo-tron signs
conditionally, to add new restrictions, and to modify
provisions related to awning signs; further amending
Article 25 entitled "Definitions," to add new definitions.

BACKGROUND AND
ANALYSIS
The proposed ordinance is an amendment to the sign ordinance in order to add signs and jumbo-
tron signs to the sign ordinance, conditionally, and with new criteria in order to ensure that their
implementation is in keeping with certain standards and the intent of the zoning ordinance. The
proposed amendment also modifies child daycare signage limitations in the R-1 and R-2 zoning
districts when a proposed daycare center is to be located along a major arterial roadway; the
existing limitation of 2 square feet per sign is insufficient for visibility on such corridors. The
ordinance also modifies an inadvertent omission regarding awning signage so that whether an
establishment is a single building establishment or part of many establishments within a single
building, the same awning signs are permitted. This ordinance was previously heard and
recommended for approval and has since been modified pursuant to City Commission direction to
include new language prohibiting approval of permits on property that is the subject of an ongoing
or pending enforcement procedures. It was also modified with regards to Real Estate signs and
additional clean ups.
