SUBJECT: Police Department Hiring and
Staffing Update
As per the request of the City Commission during the October 10, 2013 City Commission meeting, I present
this memorandum, which outlines the Police Department's manpower allocation and hiring progress.
The Miami Police Department is currently operating with 54 sworn vacancies. There are 2 sworn members
of the Police Department who must separate from service due to the DROP in 2015.
The following is a breakdown of the Police Department's hiring progress since the July 23, 2015 City
Commission meeting:

Police Officer
•
One hundred and twenty-three (123) applicants hired year-to-date in 2015.
•
Seven (7) applicants hired since last City Commission meeting.
•
Six (6) applicants awaiting medical clearance.
•
Processing 622 police officer applicants from August 15`h and 16`h and
September 19th and 20th 2015 orientations.
Crime Scene
•
Six (6) Crime Scene Investigators 1 hired from the March 17, 2015 and May
Investigator 1
5, 2015 orientation.
Emergency
•
Six (6) Emergency Dispatchers hired from March 24, 2015 orientation.
Dispatcher
The table on page 2 is a snapshot of the Police Department's hiring progress and staffing levels from
December 2014 through August 2015.

*The table listed is an updated spreadsheet with the hiring progress and staffing levels configured to reflect past personnel actions that were not
reported during specific months, due to non -finalized payroll actions. The "Separated" and "Hired" levels will change retroactively each month now to
reflect the previously reported levels that may have taken place after the reporting period.
*The Vacant numbers only reflect an estimate and are subject to change slightly, depending on personnel actions occurring but not finalized during the
month reported, specifically those personnelactions that have not cleared payroll as of the date of the report.
