Why Update? . • Our communication systems are becoming increasingly outdated. • Parts and support are being discontinued by the manufacturer. • System is at end of life. Submitted into the public record in connection with item rt..') on `Y • n.1'j City Clerk • Extended warranties have approached their expiration dates, and technical support will not be available from the manufacturer. • Communication system expiration dates — MTC 3600 SmartNET — System expired December 2009 — System upgrades expired December 2009 — Software releases expired December 2008 — Console positions December 2009 — Simulcast sites December 2010 — Channels December 2010 • Current system poses increasing risk to first responders and the public. • As parts and support diminish, the system will be at greater risk of a catastrophic failure — without having the parts and technical support available to repair it. • Technology has changed significantly. • Current system has had multiple failures.
