A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION NOMINATING MS. LYNN
SUMMERS, MS. VANESSAACOSTA, AND MR. KEVIN KIRWIN TO THE
MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC LIBRARY ADVISORY BOARD, IN COMPLIANCE
WITH MIAMI-DADE COUNTY CODE SECTION 2-195; FURTHER DIRECTING THE
CITY CLERK TO TRANSMITA COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE HEREIN
DESIGNATED OFFICIALS.
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-195 of the Miami -Dade County Code, the Miami -Dade County
Public Library Advisory Board ("Board") shall consist of eleven (11) members, to include three (3)
members who are City of Miami ("City") residents nominated by the City Manager and approved by the
Miami City Commission for appointment to the Board; and
WHEREAS, the City is committed to ensuring that our libraries remain properly funded,
professionally staffed, and adequately stocked with the materials and books the public expects; and
WHEREAS, three (3) vacancies currently exist on the Board and the City Commission may select
individuals to submit to the Miami -Dade Board of County Commissioners for each available vacancy;
and
WHEREAS, the City wants its representatives on the Board to have input on the Master Plan
formulated by Miami -Dade County Mayor Carlos Gimenez's Blue Ribbon Task Force for the
Miami -Dade Public Library System; and
WHEREAS, the City wishes to continue to serve and represent its citizens on the Board; and
WHEREAS, the City Commission nominates three (3) qualified candidates, who are residents of
the City: Ms. Lynn Summers, Ms. Vanessa Acosta, and Mr. Kevin Kirwin, to be appointed to the Board;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. Ms. Lynn Summers, Ms. Vanessa Acosta, and Mr. Kevin Kirwin are selected and
nominated to the Miami -Dade Board of County Commissioners for appointment onto the Board.
Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Miami -Dade County
Mayor Carlos Gimenez and the members of the Miami -Dade Board of County Commissioners.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{1}

{1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten (10) calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
