Thank you, Wifredo "Willy" Gort Commissioner, District 1 City of Miami From: Carmen Jaqueline Gimenezjmailto:carmenjgimenez@ausa-refugees.coml Sent: Tuesday, April 15, 2014 9:06 AM To: Gort, Wifredo (Commissioner) Subject: Request Agenda Dear Mr. Gort: We hope this Email finds you well. My name is Carmen Gimenez and I am registered as lobbyist for the organization USA Refugees & Immigrants (non- profit) Through this Email we are requesting your office to support our petition to the Secretary of Homeland Security and Mr. President to Stop Deportations and approve a TPS for Venezuelans. The resolution you approved was 14-0220 Is not related to Venezuelans living in USA as the resolution we are asking for. We please you to add me to the agenda on the next Council Meeting (April 24th) so we can make the petition for a resolution to support the approval of a TPS for Venezuelans and also to Stop Deportation of Venezuelans That resolution will be added to other cities resolution and will be sent to The Secretary of Homeland Security and Mr. President to consider the approval that I mentioned before I will spend between 3 and 5 minutes explaining the need of that resolutions and the facts that Venezuelans need that protective status. Here the resolution model we are proposing. Best Regards, We have this as proposal to the City of Miami Whereas, on April 15th 2013, the US Senate Bi-Partisan Committee on Immigration Reform proposed legislation to fix our Country's broken immigration policies and, Whereas, according to the PEW Hispanic Center, in 2011, there were 11.1 million unauthorized immigrants living in the United States and, Whereas deportations have reached annual level of nearly 400.000 since 2009, and Whereas, according to Congress members Raul M. Grijalva and Ivette Clarke, although Mr. President administration reportedly prioritized deporting only criminals , many individuals with no criminal history has been consistently deported and, Whereas, increased venezuelans deportations and a continuation of broken immigration policies exacerbate the living conditions of USA citizen children whose parents has been deported, and Whereas, separation of children from their venezuelan parents, regardless of immigration status, always results in severe consequences for young children who are left with no parental guidance or care and a highly unstable financial situation, and Whereas, it is necessary to expand the protection to our future citizens that were established by the Deferred Action of Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program and grant it to the family and neighbors and all those who are made their lives here but are yet to be fully recognized, and Whereas, many venezuelans undocumented workers have being fired from their jobs by means of 1-9 audits and the use of E-Verify system, both of which are method of enforcing employer sanctions, and 2 Whereas, Mr. President and his administration has the power to discontinuing these methods of enforcing immigration law, and the Secretary of Homeland Security has the power to approve a Temporary Protection Status (TPS) for humanitarian causes, Whereas in the city of Miami are living a lot of Venezuelans out of legal immigration status, Whereas the Venezuela ongoing armed conflict and extraordinary conditions, provoque Venezuelans living in US will suffer terrible humanitarian consequences, as physical, moral and psychologic, if they return to their country Whereas Venezuelans are contributing with the progress of this city and this country, Whereas the City of Miami has more than 70% hispanic/Latino population, many of them are Venezuelans and many of them has it immigration status expired, Whereas, the City of Miami is home of many unauthorized immigrants from many parts of the world, including venezuelans, the city should therefore make it priority to keep families together and continue to press Congress and Mr. President for a solution to our broken federal immigration system; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that by adoption of this resolution, the City Council of the City of Miami hereby includes in it 2013-2014 Federal Legislative Program support for administrative action to suspend any further deportations of unauthorized venezuelan individuals with no serious criminal history to extend Deferred Action to all eligible undocumented members of Venezuela immigrant families and to end firings Venezuelan undocumented workers by ending the 1-9 audits and the use of E-Verify System, and encourage the Secretary of Homeland Security to approve a TPS (Temporary Protection Status) for Venezuelans whose immigration status have expired PASSED, APPROVED AND ADOPTED by the council of the City of Miami at its regular meeting on April 24rd, 2014.
