Subject: A Discussion Item regarding Miami -Dade County's "Mayor's Blue Ribbon Task Force" on the
Public Library System.
Purpose of Item:
The Miami -Dade County's "Mayor's Blue Ribbon Task Force" on the Public Library System will be
meeting on December 18, 2013. The City Manager and staff will update the City Commission on
what has been happening regarding the County's Library System and discuss the City's position on
several topics relating to the City's interests thereof.
Background Information:
On October 22, 2013, Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez sent a letter to Mayor Tomas Regalado inviting the
City to participate in the "Mayor's Blue Ribbon Task Force." Staff has attended several working
group meetings and the only formal task force meeting thus far. The full task force will again
formally meet on December 18, 2013. The County will have additional meetings after that and will
use the recommendations of the task force as a foundation for the development of the Library
System's FY 2014-15 budget and strategic master plan.
