The City Trust in collaboration with the Black Ministers United
attends a breakfast meeting with celebrity former NBA basketball player
Erwin "Magic" Johnson on Aids Awareness and Prevention in Miami.
On April 4, 2013, the Miami River of Life and the Urban Garden
Foundation in partnership with the Stand Up Against Violence
Alliance and WEDR 99JAMS hosted the 2012 "Stand Up
Against Violence" at Miami Northwestern Senior High School.
During the 60's Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. always utilized
students to advance the non-violent approach, but before his
dream became a reality he was assassinated in Memphis,
Tennessee on April 4, 1968.
To remember King's legacy a rally was held at Miami
Northwestern Senior High School to hear solutions from kids
and members of the community on how to stop the senseless
bloodshed that's occurring in Liberty City.
The Stand Up Against Violence Rally is a special event in which
people across the community join together in Liberty City
wearing t-shirts, wrist bands, and designing posters with anti-
violence messages to: Send a loud, non -confrontational
message of resistance to violence Identify themselves to
victims as a source of support willing to help draw attention to
the effects of violence on the individual, family, school and
community to stimulate passive bystanders into action. A
second rally is currently planned.
