Subject: Truck traffic and condition of the roads in District 1
Aside from water leaks in the WASA system We would argue that the main problem on our roadway is heavy trucks or
overweight trucks. These trucks are causing severe deterioration to the streets in the Allapattah Area. To the best of
our knowledge these trucks are cement trucks, heavy garbage trucks taking debris, including County WASA trucks taking
material to their facility at 1001 NW 11 St
In addition we have the problem with regular truck traffic that in order to avoid the toll go through our neighborhood
streets in Allapattah. So the question is: How do we improve the quality of life of residents of District 1 by reducing
truck traffic and how do we reduce the damage to our streets, and when damage does occur as the result of this
truck traffic how do we create a fund to repair it.
1. Are there any laws that limit truck weight, and if so who enforces it, and what is the law?
2. Can we limit overweight trucks to specific roads?
3. As part of the Certificate of Use can we place certain requirements on their truck fleet operation? And perhaps
requiring the entity to maintain surrounding roads or pay into a maintenance fund?
Commissioner Gort is placing this item as a District Item for discussion at the November 15th Commission Meeting
