The City of Miami
444 SW 2nd Ave., Room 129
Miami, FL 33130
To whom it may concern:
In response to the City of Miami's search for a City Clerk, I have enclosed for your consideration
a copy of my personal resume. In addition I have enclosed a Summary of major activities within
the financial management area from 2000-2011 that I have been involved with.
As a Senior Level Executive who has over twenty-nine years of progressively responsible
experience in the public sector, I am extremely interested in securing the position of City Clerk.
As you can see from my resume, I have served as City Clerk for fourteen (14) years in addition to
the current and present positions I also am appointed to. I am the second longest tenured
serving City Clerk in the history of the city. If selected, I will utilize the demonstrated leadership,
financial management, personnel management, policy making, strategic planning,
communication and astute political skills I have developed during that time period to provide
management control and coordination over the numerous composite issues that local
government managers encounter on a daily basis.
I believe that I am well qualified to serve as City Clerk based on my comprehensive knowledge of
local government administrative principles, practices and techniques. Over the past twenty—
nine years, the majority of which has been spent in positions similar to this, I have consistently
achieved defined goals and objectives whereby taxpayer services have been enhanced and tax
dollars utilized in the most cost-effective manner. The attributes of my current and preceding
positions have provided me the means to acquire a diverse background of public management
experience in areas beyond my immediate jurisdiction.
Should you agree that my experience lends itself directly to the position's requirements, I would
welcome the opportunity to speak with you as I did last summer regarding this exciting
professional opportunity.
Sincerely,
James N. Olson
