HomeMy WebLinkAboutSubmittal-Touching Miami with Love Support PetionsApril 22, 2012 Touching Miami with Love has needed to expand our facility for years to have space for recreation and to increase our capacity to serve more children and adults. Therefore, we have been in discussion with the developer of a proposed mixed -use commercial and rental apartment complex on the block between 7th and 8th streets and 6th and 7th Avenues (currently the land is vacant). We have been in discussions to sign a community benefits agreement that would assist us in our growth and future programs. As part of this agreement, the developer is proposing to donate a property they own on the corner of 6th Avenue and 8th street to the city of Miami for a park. We are supportive of the overall project and park because of the following reasons: 1) TML would have exclusive access to the park to do our recreation. 2) We have asked for the projects property tax (TIF) that goes to the Overtown Park West CRA to be designated for TML for the purchase of an additional lot adjacent to TML in order to expand our current building. Furthermore, it could also provide additional funding for needed programs for years to come. 3) We believe this project will bring new housing and business opportunities for our community and be a catalyst for future positive business, opportunities, and community growth. We understand that the complex will be a combination of mixed height buildings up to 20 stories.
