AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY FORM CONTINUED
Background Information:
The Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS ("HOPWA") Program was created under the AIDS
Housing Opportunity Act and revised under the Housing and Community Development Act of 1992.
Since 1994 the City of Miami ("City") has received HOPWA Program funds from the United States
Department of Housing and Urban Development (" HUD") and has been responsible for the
implementation of programs designed to provide housing and related services to individuals living
with HIV/AIDS in the City and throughout Miami -Dade County.
HUD has yet to release the final Community Planning and Development Program Formula
Allocations for Program Year 2012, as such; the amount of HOPWA funds being recommended is a
projection.
The Administration recommends the allocation for Program Year 2012-2013 HOPWA Funds, in the
projected amount of $12,498,939, as specified in Attachment "A", attached and incorporated, to
provide housing assistance and housing related services to low-income individuals living with
HIV/AIDS.
The funding allocations to the HOPWA Program, as specified in Attachment "A", may need to be
adjusted once HUD confirms the final HOPWA formula allocation for Program Year 2012-2013.
