A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S),
URGING GOVERNOR RICK SCOTT AND THE MEMBERS OF THE FLORIDA
LEGISLATURE TO SUPPORT THE ISSUES ADOPTED AS THE LEGISLATIVE
PRIORITIES FOR THE CITY OF MIAMI DURING THE 2012 LEGISLATIVE
SESSION; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMITA COPY OF THIS
RESOLUTION TO THE OFFICIALS DESIGNATED HEREIN.
WHEREAS, municipal self-determination and local self-government are constantly under
pressure from a variety of public and private interests; and
WHEREAS, a majority of Florida's cities have experienced negative impacts to construction,
property values and the employment base as a result of the global economic slowdown; and
WHEREAS, Florida's municipalities are dependent on other governmental entities for financial
stability and support; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami had identified its 2012 legislative priority items and request the
support of the legislature regarding these issues; and
WHEREAS, Governor Rick Scott and Florida's House and Senate leaders have an opportunity
to address the concerns of the City of Miami and other municipalities during the upcoming 2012
legislative session;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
MIAMI:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted
by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Resolution.
Section 2. The Miami City Commission urges Governor Rick Scott and the members of the
Florida Legislature to support the issues adopted as the legislative priorities for the City of Miami,
attached and incorporated, during the 2012 legislative session.
Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Governor Rick
Scott and the members of the Florida Legislature
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature
of the Mayor.{1}

{1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall
become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
