Purpose of Item: AUTHORIZING THE DE -OBLIGATION OF EMERGENCY SHELTER GRANT ("ESG") FUNDS FROM THE 2009 CITY OF MIAMI NEIGHBORHOOD ENHANCEMENT TEAM ("NET") HOMELESS ASSISTANCE PROGRAM ACCOUNT IN THE AMOUNT OF $47,907.47 AND THE CITY OF MIAMI DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT 2009 ESG ADMINISTRATION ACCOUNT IN THE AMOUNT OF $6,972.86, FOR A TOTAL AMOUNT OF $54,880.33; ALLOCATING SAID FUNDS TO THE SUNDARI FOUNDATION, INC. ("SUNDARI"), FOR THE LOTUS HOUSE WOMEN SHELTER LOCATED AT 217 NORTHWEST 15TH STREET FOR OPERATING COSTS, AS SPECIFIED IN EXHIBIT "A", ATTACHED AND INCORPORATED; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, FOR SAID PURPOSE. Director\ I\, \ ,' 111 Chief ��ilA� ��' City Manager ` If using or receiving capita(! funds Grants Page 1 of 1 AGENDA ITEM SUMMARY FORM CONTINUED Background Information: Pursuant to Resolution No. 09-0293, adopted June 18, 2009, the Miami City Commission approved the allocation of $352,822 to the City of Miami ("City") NET Homeless Assistance Program to provide essential services to the homeless population of the City and $10,912 to the City's Department of Community Development for administration costs. As per 24CFR 576, the ESG funds need to be expended within 24 months from the date of the grant award. This account has a balance of $47,907.47 and of $6,972.86 respectively from NET and the administration funds. NET is unable to use these funds due to the expiration of the waiver for essential services. Sundari is a non-profit corporation that provides transitional shelter to one hundred fifty (150) homeless women and infants at the Lotus House, located at 217 Northwest 15th Street, Miami, Florida whose services are eligible without any waiver from HUD. The Administration recommends the de -obligation of ESG funds from the 2009 City's NET Homeless Assistance Program Account in the amount of $47,907.47 and the City's Department of Community Development 2009 ESG Administration Account in the amount of $6,972.86, totaling $54,880.33 and allocating said funds to the Sundari for the Lotus House women's shelter located at 217 Northwest 15th Street for operating costs, as specified in Exhibit "A", attached and incorporated.
