HomeMy WebLinkAboutR-11-0455City of Miami Legislation Resolution: R-11-0455 City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 11-01009 Final Action Date: 11/17/2011 A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S), ESTABLISHING A NEW SPECIAL REVENUE PROJECT ENTITLED: "21 ST CENTURY COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER GRANT, MENTORED MINDS MATTER, 2011-2012", CONSISTING OF A REIMBURSEMENT GRANT, IN THE AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED OF $49,945, FROM THE MIAMI-DADE COUNTY PUBLIC SCHOOLS, THROUGH A GRANT AWARDED BY THE FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION, TO PROVIDE SERVICES FOR THE 21ST CENTURY COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER MENTORED MINDS MATTER PROGRAM AT LENORA B SMITH ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, MIAMI, FLORIDA; AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE AND EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT, IN SUBSTANTIALLY THE ATTACHED FORM, AND ANY OTHER NECESSARY DOCUMENTS, AMENDMENTS, EXTENSIONS, AND MODIFICATIONS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, IN ORDER TO IMPLEMENT THE ACCEPTANCE, COMPLIANCE, AND ADMINISTRATION OF SAID GRANT AWARD, FOR THE PERIOD COMMENCING AUGUST 1, 2011 THROUGH JULY 31, 2012, WITH THE OPTION TO RENEW FOR TWO (2) ADDITIONAL SIMILAR PERIODS, AT THE SAME NOT TO EXCEED AMOUNTS, UNDER THE SAME TERMS AND CONDITIONS. WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has been awarded a grant, in the amount of $49,945, from the Florida Department of Education ("FLDOE") for the funding of the City's Mentored Minds Matter Out of School Program ("Program") at Lenora B. Smith Elementary School, commencing August 1, 2011 through July 31, 2012; and WHEREAS, the Program is comprised of a cooperative effort among the City's Office of Grants Administration, Lenora B. Smith Elementary School and five (5) community -based organizations for its successful implementation; and WHEREAS, the goals of the Program are to improve health and well-being, increase academic achievement and decrease involvement in behaviors that may put children at risk; and WHEREAS, the grant will be used to continue said services to Lenora B. Smith Elementary for the fifth year of a five year grant; and WHEREAS, the City must execute a contract with MDCPS in order to accept the appropriation; and WHEREAS, it is necessary for the City Commission to authorize the City Manager to negotiate, execute, and amend the MDCPS Contract, for the period from August 1, 2011 through July 31, 2012, with the option to extend for two (2) additional similar periods for the same not to exceed amounts, under the same terms and conditions; City of Miami Page 1 of 2 File Id: 11-01009 (Version: 1) Printed On: 10/23/2017 File Number: 11-01009 Enactment Number: R-11-0455 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The City Manager is authorized {1} to accept a grant, in the amount of $49,945 from MDCPS, through a grant awarded by FLDOE, to provide services for the 21st Century Community Learning Center Mentored Minds Matter Program at Lenora B. Smith Elementary School, Miami, Florida. Section 3. The following new Special Revenue Project award is established and resources are appropriated as described below: PROJECT TITLE: 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant, Mentored Minds Matter, 2011-2012 RESOURCES: MDCPS grant awarded by the FLDOE APPROPRIATIONS: $49,945 $49,945 Section 4. The City Manager is authorized {1} to negotiate and execute an Agreement, in substantially the attached form, and any other necessary documents, amendments, extensions, and modifications, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, in order to implement the acceptance, compliance, and administration of said grant award for the period commencing August 1, 2011 through July 31, 2012, with the option to renew for two (2) additional similar periods, at the same not to exceed amounts, under the same terms and conditions. Section 5. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of the Mayor. {2} Footnotes: {1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City Charter and Code provisions. {2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
