A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ENDORSING EMPLOYER
SUPPORT FOR THE NATIONAL GUARD AND RESERVE, IN FURTHERANCE OF
AMERICA'S ARMED SERVICE MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES; FURTHER
INSTRUCTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT A COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION
TO THE CHAIRMAN OF THE NATIONAL COMMITTEE AND THE CHAIR OF THE
FLORIDA COMMITTEE FOR EMPLOYEE SUPPORT OF THE GUARD AND
RESERVE.
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City"), as an employer who provides unconditional support for the
National Guard and Reserve and recognizes that the National Guard and Reserve are essential to the
strength of the United States and the well being of its communities; and
WHEREAS, in honor of the American tradition, the patriotic men and women of the National Guard
and Reserve serve voluntarily responding and defending their communities and their country during
times of need and deserve the support of every segment of society; and
WHEREAS, if these volunteers are to continue to serve, increased public understanding is
required of the essential role of the National Guard and Reserve in preserving our national security;
and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami, its leaders and employees recognize, honor and enforce the
Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Act (USERRA) whereby those employees who
serve in the National Guard and Reserve are protected in their employment rights;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forthin this Section.
Section 2. The Miami City Commission endorses employer support for the National Guard and
Reserve, in furtherance of America's armed service members and their families.
Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to both the Chairman of
the National Committee and the Chair of the Florida Committee for Employer Support of the Guard
and Reserve.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{1}

{1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar days
from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become effective
immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
