HomeMy WebLinkAboutLegislationCity of Miami Legislation Resolution City Hall 3500 Pan American Drive Miami, FL 33133 www.miamigov.com File Number: 11-00713 Final Action Date: A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION URGING THE MEMBERS OF THE UNITED STATES CONGRESS TO SUPPORT THE RETENTION OF THE LOW-INCOME HOUSING TAX CREDIT PROGRAM; DIRECTING THE CITY CLERK TO TRANSMIT COPY OF THIS RESOLUTION TO THE OFFICIAL DESIGNATED HEREIN. WHEREAS, On July 18, 2011, Senator Tom Coburn of Oklahoma released a deficit reduction proposal entitled "Back in Black" in which he called for the elimination of The Low -Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) program; and WHEREAS, the sentiment of the Miami City Commission is that the elimination of the LIHTC program would eliminate the most important and successful program for critically needed affordable rental housing, thus depriving millions of low-income families and seniors of a decent place to live and killing thousands of well paying jobs at a time of severe unemployment; and WHEREAS, the Miami City Commission urges the members of the United States Congress to support the retention of the LIHTC program; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section. Section 2. The Miami City Commission urges the members of the United States Congress to support the retention of The Low Income Housing Tax Credit program. Section 3. The City Clerk is directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to the clerk of the United States House and Senate. Section 4.
