Strong Women, Strong Girls, Inc.

The Office of Grants Administration respectfully requests you approval and action of the.
City of Miami Commission by a 4/5ths affirmative vote, after an advertized public hearing
ratifying, approving and confirming the City Manager's recommendation, and finding that
competitive negotiation methods are not practicable. or advantageous regarding the
agreement forthe educational services described below.
The Department respectfully requests such recommendation, finding, and authorization in.
order to proceed with executing an agreement with Strong Women,.Strong Girls, Inc., to
award donated -services to:operate the mentoring component at Holmes Elementary School -
.as part of the Miami Learning Zone Out -of -School Piogratn funded by the Cluldren`s
Trust, for the 2011-2012 school year.
Strong Women, Strong Girls has demonstrated its qualifications and capacity to serve the
city through the following:
. 1. Providing a nationally recognized mentoring program dedicated to raising the,
aspirations and self-esteem of elementary school girls.
2. Providing a foundation of six core values: Love & Support, Integrity & Respect,
Discovery, Balance, A.Diverse Female Community, and SPARKS.
3. Providing experiences learned from strong women throughout history to
encourage girls and young women to become strong women themselves. Building
communities of women committed to supporting positive social change.
4. Providing a curriculum in which students learn, practice, and implement social
emotional. skills by participating in Strong Women, Strong Girls'. Countdown to
Success Skills lessons, putting these skills into action through Strong Women,
.Strong Girls' Service Project, visiting their mentors' college campus once per
year fora day of skill -building and learning about college.
For the reasons stated above, as required by the Section 18-85(A) of the Code of the City
of Miami, the Office of Grants Administration (1) recommends the execution of an
agreement with Strong Women, Strong Girls Inc., for the 2011-2012 contract year be
awarded to Strong Women, Strong Girls, which is qualified and has been providing said
services described above, and (2) finds that the competitive negotiated methods are not
practicable or advantageous for the provision of the aforementioned literacy services at
Holmes Elementary School. If these recommendations and findings meet with your
approval, please indicate by signing below. The Legislation item will be placed on the.
agenda foi the July 14th, 2011 City Commission Meeting.
