A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION NAMING THE FACILITY AND
TENNIS COURTS AT HENDERSON PARK AS THE "GARDNAR MULLOY FACILITY
AND TENNIS COURTS" IN HONOR OF GARDNAR MULLOY FOR HIS
DEDICATION AND ACHIEVEMENTS IN THE GAME OF TENNIS; DIRECTING THE
CITY MANAGER TO TAKE ALL ADMINISTRATIVE ACTIONS NECESSARY TO
EFFECTUATE THE NAMING OF SAID FACILITY.
WHEREAS, Gardnar Putnam ("Gar") Mulloy is a well known doubles match player with Billy
Talbert, with whom he won several U.S. men's doubles title in 1942, 1945, 1946, and 1948; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mulloy has won several national and international champion titles during his 75
years of competitive tennis, including his win at the Wimbledon doubles with partner Budge Patty in
1957 when Mr. Mulloy was 43 years old; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Mulloy greatly contributed to advancing the popularity of Senior Tennis and the
Mulloy Cup for international competition among men tennis players more than 80 years; and
WHEREAS. the City of Miami wishes to honor Mr. Mulloy by naming the Henderson Park's Facility
and Tennis Courts in his honor;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble of this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. The Henderson Park Facility and Tennis Courts is hereby named the "Gardner Mulloy
Facility and Tennis Courts," in honor of the tennis player Gardnar Mulloy for his dedication and
achievements in the game of tennis.
Section 3. The City Manager is directed to take all administrative actions necessary to effectuate
the naming of said facility.
Section 4. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{1}
{1} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall become
effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City.
