A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION, WITH ATTACHMENT(S),
ADOPTING IN PRINCIPLE THE "SOUTH MIAMI AVENUE STREETSCAPE DESIGN
PLAN" FOR USE AS A GUIDING TOOL FOR EXISTING AND FUTURE
DEVELOPMENT, TO ENHANCE THE IMAGE, SAFETY, AND ECONOMIC VITALITY
OF THE SOUTH MIAMI AVENUE CORRIDOR IN BRICKELL VILLAGE BETWEEN
THE MIAMI RIVER AND SOUTHEAST 15TH ROAD, MIAMI, FLORIDA.
WHEREAS, on October 16, 2009 the Board of Directors of the Miami Downtown Development
Authority ("DDA") adopted the 2025 Downtown Miami Master Plan, which supports the improvement
of South Miami Avenue as a means of reinforcing Brickell Village Center; and
WHEREAS, an expanding residential population and significant new commercial development
have highlighted the need for improvements to the South Miami Avenue right-of-way; and
WHEREAS, on June 11, 2010, a participatory design process involving a broad array of area
stakeholders including representatives of restaurant, retail, and residential properties was initiated;
and
WHEREAS, the resulting streetscape design plan, adopted by the DDA on September 17, 2010,
and included herein as "Exhibit A", provides for a safe, welcoming, and pedestrian -friendly "main
street" including enhanced sidewalks, street lighting, shade trees, and bicycle amenities; and
WHEREAS, the Miami Planning, Zoning and Appeals Board, at its meeting on May 18, 2011,
following an advertised public hearing, adopted Resolution No. PZAB-11-025 by a vote of six to two
(6-2), item no. 1, recommending APPROVAL as hereinafter set forth;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are hereby
adopted by reference thereto and incorporated herein as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. "The South Miami Avenue Streetscape Design Plan" is adopted as a guiding tool for
existing and future development, to enhance the image, safety, and economic vitality of the South
Miami Avenue Corridor in Brickell Village between the Miami River and Southeast 15th Road, Miami,
Florida.
Section 3. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor. {1}
