A RESOLUTION OF THE MIAMI CITY COMMISSION ACCEPTING A GRANT
AWARD, IN THE AMOUNT OF $656,464, FROM THE FEDERAL EMERGENCY
MANAGEMENT AGENCY, UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND
SECURITY, GRANTS PROGRAM DIRECTORATE, WITH A REQUIRED
MATCHING FUND FROM THE CITY OF MIAMI ("CITY"), IN THE AMOUNT OF
$164,116, FOR A TOTAL AMOUNT OF $820,580,TO PURCHASE PERSONNEL
PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT; ALLOCATING THE CITY'S REQUIRED MATCHING
FUNDS, FROM CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECT B-70411, ENTITLED
"FIRE -RESCUE PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT PROJECT";
AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE THE NECESSARY
DOCUMENTS, IN A FORM ACCEPTABLE TO THE CITY ATTORNEY, IN ORDER
TO IMPLEMENT THE ACCEPTANCE AND COMPLIANCE OF SAID GRANT.
WHEREAS, the Department of Fire -Rescue wishes to provide the protection from carcinogenic
exhaust for its firefighters and the public that sometime use the City facilities for civic events or seek
shelter during hurricanes; and
WHEREAS, the City of Miami ("City") has been awarded a grant, in the amount of $656,464, from
the Federal Emergency Management Agency ("FEMA"), United States Department of Homeland
Security("USDHS"), Grants Program Directorate ("GPD"), for the period beginning March 20, 2011
through March 19, 2012; and
WHEREAS, matching funds from the City, in the amount of $164,116, are required as a condition
of said grant, and are available from the City's Capital Improvement Project B-70411, entitled
"Fire -Rescue Personal Protective Equipment Project"; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to stipulations of the grant award, the Department of Fire -Rescue will use
said funds to purchase personnel protective equipment such as. Self -Contained Breathing Apparatus
equipment and an Exhaust Extraction System in its effort to continue to excel in life safety; and
WHEREAS, it is appropriate for the City Commission to authorize the City Manager to execute any
necessary documents to implement the acceptance and compliance of said grant;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF MIAMI,
FLORIDA:
Section 1. The recitals and findings contained in the Preamble to this Resolution are adopted by
reference and incorporated as if fully set forth in this Section.
Section 2. A grant award, in the amount of $656,464, from FEMA, USHDHS, GPD, is accepted,
with a required matching fund from the City, in the amount of $164,116, for a total amount of
$820,580, to purchase personnel protective equipment.

Section 3. The City's required matching funds, are allocated from Capital Improvement Project B-
70411, entitled "Fire -Rescue Personal Protective Equipment Project".
Section 4. The City Manager is authorized{1} to execute the necessary documents, in a form
acceptable to the City Attorney, in order to implement the acceptance and compliance of said grant.
Section 5. The grant will be appropriated by separate Resolution.
Section 6. This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon its adoption and signature of
the Mayor.{2}

Footnotes:
{1} The herein authorization is further subject to compliance with all requirements that may be
imposed by the City Attorney, including but not limited to those prescribed by applicable City
Charter and Code provisions.
{2} If the Mayor does not sign this Resolution, it shall become effective at the end of ten calendar
days from the date it was passed and adopted. If the Mayor vetoes this Resolution, it shall
become effective immediately upon override of the veto by the City Commission.
