Purpose of Item:
Resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into a Cooperative Inter -agency Agreement, in
substantial the attached form, to continue to implement Project SEARCH Miami. This program is a
one year school -to -work transition program to be hosted at the City of Miami on an annual basis for
youths with disabilities 18-22 years of age whose goal is competitive employment.

The Department of Parks and Recreation thru the Division of Programs for Persons with Disabilities
will continue coordinating the implementation of the program called Project SEARCH Miami, for the
next school year with three (3) additional one (1) year options for renewal.

PROJECT SEARCH MIAMI
COOPERATIVE INTER -AGENCY AGREEMENT

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:
The program is managed by the City with the collaboration of several local agencies that
together provide the support to implement this program. The collaborative is comprised of 1)
the City of Miami, Department of Parks and Recreation (City), 2) Miami -Dade County Public
Schools (MDCPS), 3) the Miami -Dade Office (Area VI) of the Florida Department of Education,
Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) and 4) MACTown (MACT).
In general, the responsibilities for each of the partners in this collaborative are as follows:
1) The City is the business host site at the Miami Riverside Center where participants are
placed in different departments (work sites) to be instructed in marketable work and social
skills with the goal of gainful employment. Classroom and office space for the Project SEARCH
Miami collaborative staff and participant are provided by the City. In addition, the City
provides thru the Parks and Recreation Department staff to assist as needed.
2) MDCPS promotes the program, recruits qualified students, provides the teacher, teacher's
aide, materials, transportation and training.
3) DVR provides support to participants thru their programs to assist in meeting the
employment goal.
4) MACTown provides ongoing job development services to students and alumni which
includes staff consultation, student screening, job matching, job development, job
placement, follow up support, record keeping and job coaching. In addition, they provide
qualified job coaches who locate the jobs and train the supported employee at the work site.
Project SEARCH Miami has been operating successfully at the City's MRC building since 2008.
To date, 80% of students completing the program in the past two years have found jobs.
It is important to understand that the implementation of this program is a private -public
partnership that requires the agencies involved to provide all services in -kind.
