Dear Chief Esposito:
For the 26th consecutive year the Florida Attorney General's Office is sponsoring the National
Conference on Preventing Crime in the Black Community, May 18-21, 2011, in Miami, Florida. This
annual conference is designed to address issues relating to the disproportionate number of African -
Americans under the supervision of the criminal justice system. The 2010 conference, which was held
in Orlando, was a tremendous success with over 1350 participants from throughout Florida and the
United States.
We are pleased that your agency has accepted our invitation to participate and serve as a co -host for
the 2011 conference. As co -host, your office will be fully informed and involved in each aspect of
planning and development to ensure the needs of your community are addressed in the
program. You will also be listed as ,a host agency in all promotional materials, as well as the final
conference program. You will also be provided an opportunity to speak during the opening session of
the conference. A complimentary exhibit space will also be provided during the conference that many
agencies have found beneficial for their minority recruitment and to showcase local crime prevention
programs.
The conference host committee also sponsors several events during the conference including,
educational workshops, a Welcome Reception, and other activities. To cover the costs. of these
events all host agencies are being requested by the host committee to make a financial contribution
from forfeiture or other appropriate funds to help with the cost. The host committee has determined
that $5000.00 from each agency would allow all needs to be adequately covered. Checks should be
made —payable to: SbL)rban League of Greater Miami, Incorporated" and mailed to Major Craig
McQueen, Community Relations Section, Miami Police Department, 400 Northwest 21'1. Avenue,
Miami, Florida 33128.
Thank you for your support and involvement. Should you have any questions you can reach me at
850 414-3353 or Host Committee Chair, Major Craig McQueen, Miami Police Department, (305) 603-
6090.
Sincerely,
_QYILL
