Neil Hall, A|A President/CEO Enclosures Taj Hunter Waite =CONTACT° Yvette Harris 954]817195 78G.897,8854 Exhibition Concept It is our intention to produce the 6th Annual Art Africa Miami Arts Fair during Art Basel Miami 2016. We want to pay homage to the centrality of Africa's artistic contribution to the modern world and to brand art from the Miami Black art community as a significant attraction during Art Basel Miami annually. TheUrban[oUectivewill house anumber nfgalleries ten tofifteen under one umbrella, creating alarge central pavilion and building an entire theme around the art and culture of Africa and its Diaspora, providing a centralized space to house the art of this region during Art Basel. Art Africa Miami Arts Fair will be hosted in o tent pavilion that will give our fair goers and exhibitors an opportunity to experience an unparalleled body ofwork selected by o jury of art professionals whose contributions to the art world are extensive and of critical importance to both seasoned and emerging artists and galleries alike. Each year Art Basel Miami attracts a multitude art buyers, collectors, curators and gallery owners to our fair city. It draws over 7S,UOOvisitors, offers more than 5,U00gallery venues and creates ove/$2.S billion in sales revenue over the seven day event. The number of museums, galleries, and studios that proffer this wealth of visual art continue to increase exponentially each year and in response, the visitors and the revenues they bring tothe community at large also continue to increase. In short, Art Basel is the wodd's pre-eminent contemporary art fair whose cultural dBnUlcenoe and revenue generating ability cannot beunder estimated. However, as South Florida temporarily transforms into the international Mecca for art during Art Basel, the local Black art community continues tostruggle toestablish asignificant presence inthe expo. Since the launch of Art Africa Miami Arts Fair in 2011, a small few of others have followed suit and created other venues that exhibit art from the African Diaspora, and these venues tend to be found here and there, scattered in various smaller artspacesthroughout the city. The Art Africa Miami Arts Fair is the first art fair during Art Basel Miami to showcase solely art work from the Diaspora and we have received widespread recognition for it. The paucity ofvenues inBasel week that support and/or promote African art does a disservice to the fair itself and the city which hosts it. That such a situation exists ignores the fact that African art is a fundamental tenet in the development of cubism, modern sculpture, woodcutting and blocking and other contemporary media. |twas African art which inspired and made significant impressions on renowned Spanish and French contemporary artists such as Picasso, Henri Matisse and Andre Breton among a great many others, yet African art remains underrepresented. TajHunter Waite "CONTACT" Yvette Harris 954.283,7185 786.897.8854 It is our belief that Historic Overtown, as the bygone epicenter of Black Arts and Culture, must continue to be the destination for this yearly celebration of the very best cultural capital emanating from the African Diaspora; afiot class event bridging HbtohoOver-town's swinging past with its elegant future. Fair goers will have the opportunity to Shop, Dine and Explore the best ofOvertovvn's commercial businesses as we venture to engage local vendors by offering Art Africa Specials during the run of the event. This will prove a mutually beneficial business model for both our local small businesses, Miami [RA, and Art Africa Miami alike. Additionally, we are engaging local universities such as Florida International University and Florida Memorial University to create frequent exhibitions, placing Historic Overtmmn in the center of ongoing cultural and academic dialogue, adding yet another layer of tangible opportunity for the empowerment of this wonderful community. By advancing both local and global African, African -American and Afro -Caribbean artists, Art Africa Miami can create a wider audience and broaden the scope of opportunities available to the artists, galleries and local small businesses that participate in the successful fruition of Art Africa Miami Arts fair. We seek to transform, educate and enlighten the international community to the depth and breadth of art emanating from our local Black community, allowing artists from the Diaspora a chance to leave their distinct mark on Art Basel and the international art clientele which it attracts. For2016, we have extended invitations to an esteemed list of renowned artists, curators and BoUehstztn exhibit in this landmark effort and as you are a member of this revered group, we look forward to your participation.
