From: Clarence E.Woods, U| References: Executive Director Enclosures: Supporting Documentation; Legislation The Black Police Precinct and Courthouse Museum ("Black Police Precinct"), located cd480 NW 11th SL, Miami. FL, is a hiub/ho structure of major significance and e specifically identified project area within the Southeast [)vndnwn/ParkVVest Community Redevelopment Agency Plan ("Plan"). In 2011. the City of Miami conveyed the Black Police Pre' cinct to the Southeast Overtnwn/Park West Community Redevelopment Agency ("CRA") for the purpose of continuing redevelopment efforts in accordance with the Plan. The attached Resolution ofthe Board ofCommissioners ofthe CRA ratifies an expenditure of funds inthe amount of $45'471.55for on emergency roof replacement, drywall repairs, and baokfow repairs at the Black Police Precinct; and further authorizes an allowance in an amount not toexceed $10'000for maintenance and unexpected expenses atthe Precinct. Gendnn 2' Goal 1, at page 11. of the Plan lists the "prnsenv[ation of] historic buildings and community heritage" amastated redevelopment goal. Section 2, Principle 6, at page 15, of the Plan states, "local cultural events, institutions, and businesses are to be promoted". Further. Section 2' Principles 8 and 14, at page 15 of the Plan obabas that "older buildings that embody the area's cultural past should be restored" and the area's sense ofcommunity should be restored and unified culturally. The Plan, at page 90, lists Black Police Precinct as being a structure of major importance and emphasis should be placed on its preservation. Further' the Black Police Precinct was renovated by the City ofMiami to be used aoamuseum and topromote cultural activities for the [)vertowncommunity.
