BACKGROUND:
The attached Resolution of the Board of Commissioners of the Southeast Dvertovvn/PerkVVeat Community
Redevelopment Agency yCRA" authorizes a grant, in an amount not to exceed $205.000' to Urgent. Inc., for
the201O Summer Youth Training Institute.
Urgent, Inc. is a |ouo non-profit committed to issues impacting children and youdh, and seeks assistance in
administering a summer youth employment program that would help to combat youth unemployment throughout
the Redevelopment Area. The Board ofCommissioners, byResolution Nos. CRA-R-10'0U38.CRA-R-11-O027.
CRA'F-14-0038. CRA-R-15'0015 have previously supported the establishment of summer employment
programs for youth by Urgent, Inc.
The Institute will operate for seven (7) weeks in June and July, and afford youth 16-24with the opportunity to
build and advance their skills in one ofsix (6)disciplines: (1) Film; (2) Broadcast Media; (3)Arta (Architectural
Design, Graphic Design 8 Creative Writing); (4) Cu|huno| Tourism; (5) Information Technology (Coding &VVob
Design); and (8) Entrepreneurship/Business Management. The Institute will also provide job 0000hing,
community service, crisis inbarvenUon, and continuous learning 8 leadership development seminars. Laady,
eligible interns will have the opportunity to earn high school and/or college credit by completing this summer
program through partnerships with Miami -Dade Public Schools and Miami -Dade College,
The youth participating in the Institute will be afforded the opportunity to interact with working professionals and
college interns facilitating the operations of the Institute. Such interaction coupled with the experience in the
area of interest may serve as a basis for the youth to continue their education and/or career development in
furtherance oftheir professional goals and aspirations,
Section 2, Goals 4 and 0, at page 11, of the Southeast Overhown/Park West Community Redevelopment
Agency Plan ("Plan") lists the "creati[on of] jobs within the community" and "improving quality of life for residents"
enstated redevelopment goals.
